What a wonderful capture.. I remember being ten or so, out in the Gulf of Mexico and the crew being surprised by unexpected weather. These, we call them 'water spouts' were close by and on both sides of the boat. It was very frightening and would be at any age. This is an image that brings back memories of their power, threat and unpredictability.
