Description
It is a building of 102 meters long and 73 meters high, built in the late nineteenth century to the late twentieth, with a mix of different architectural styles: neoclassical exterior, neo-Gothic interior and neo-Romanesque crypt.
It was consecrated on June 15, 1993 by John Paul II, 3 in his fourth trip to Spain, the only Spanish cathedral consecrated by a Pope. The temple is dedicated to the Virgin Mary in her title of Our Lady of Almudena, patron saint of Madrid and of the archdiocese.
